I'm an independent designer. Whether you'd like to use one of my preferred contractors or not is entirely up to you.
Your finished CAD plans are yours to bid out to any contractor. Get 2-3 honest bids and compare apples to apples.
Plant quantities, hardscape square footages, light fixture quantities, and all other items documented and listed out, so there's less gray area when you're getting bids.
When I refer one of my vetted contractors, I stay lightly involved during construction to make sure what's built matches the design and to keep the contractor accountable.

Why Get a Design?
A contractor may sell you a project off a verbal pitch and a rough concept. When it's built and you don't love the result, it's too late. A refined design, worked through with a professional, locks in a plan you're genuinely happy with before a shovel hits the ground.
A "to scale" plan establishes accurate sizes for fountains, firepits, patios, pools, hardscape square footage, plant quantities, irrigation valves, lighting fixtures, fencing and edging linear footage. You'll know exactly what you have, and exactly what each piece should cost.
The Process
After a complimentary 30-45 minute consultation, here's exactly how we go from your existing yard to finished CAD plans.
Once a signed contract and deposit are in, I will proceed to take full measurements (house, windows, doors, plants to keep, fencing, hardscape, utilities) and an over-amount of photos. About 2-3 hours on site. You receive a 'to scale' site plan for your records.
About 2-4 weeks later, I present (2) conceptual CAD options plus image sheets of plants, materials and components, with approximate itemized pricing, so you can see what fits your taste and budget. 1-2 hours.
About 2-4 weeks after that, I deliver refined CAD plans with itemized quantities and pricing. Then I refer 2-3 vetted contractors I think you'll match with for bidding, and stay lightly involved during install.
