St. John's Episcopal Church: Memorial Garden

This design was for a memorial garden at St. John's Episcopal Church in Chula Vista. I submitted a free rough hand sketch for them to consider, and a few weeks later they contacted me and awarded me the contract. I was honored to be chosen as the designer for such a meaningful project.

Initially, I came up with four new options with different layouts and presented to their church board of about 8 people, led by the priest. After some discussion and budgeting, we concluded on a layout that included the columbarium location, the statue location of St. John the Beloved, the hardscape (topcast concrete with score lines at 45° angles), bench locations, planter designs, and colorful plants, a large 'Little Gem' Magnolia in the main center circular planter, Impatiens, Liriope, Fuchsias, Day Lilies, King Palms in decorative pots, and other dynamic selections.
